Everyone is asking where is 'CHAPTER I' sketchbook since I revealed my 'CHAPTER II' sketchbook last month. The fact is, the first one isn't even called 'CHAPTER I'. It's called 'LEFT & RIGHT', and I published it with my big brother, Alan Quah, back in 2019 for MEGACON ORLANDO. Each of us covered half of the book's content. I have a few extra copies with me if any of you are interested, check out my store! Mind you, international shipping can be pricey. Anyway, let's talk about the glory of the 'CHAPTER II SKETCHBOOK'!
WHEN CAN I BUY 'CH II' SKETCHBOOK?
*EDIT-NOW AVAILABLE INTERNATIONALLY OVER HERE*
*FOR SINGAPORE FRIENDS, CHECK OUT COMIC GRAIL VAULT*
Right, I know that I said the book would be available sometime after MEGACON ORLANDO at Scott's Collectables' webstore...and now it's been like two months with no news. The thing is, I'm doing a new print run with a new printer as the first batch had printing errors, which caused the delay. I did test prints with three different printers to avoid repeating the same mistake. I should be able to get the new batch this month, so hopefully by June, we can have them up for sale online! Yay!
FOR MALAYSIANS WHO PREORDERED
I will be appearing for one day at the upcoming FESTIVAL OF THE FORCE charity event at Paradigm Mall, PJ on the 17th of June 2023 from 10am to 6pm, and I will have the sketchbooks there for pick up. So do come by and collect your copy! If you also preordered my exclusive W0RLDTR33 #1, I will have them with me on the spot ;) For those who chose pick up but are unable to come due to unforeseen circumstances, we can arrange for delivery later as well. I will reach out to each of you individually as soon as possible!
WHAT ARE THE PRINTING ERRORS?
I don't even know how this happened, as this is the first time I've seen it, and the printer said they don't know how to fix it. Somehow, the lines and shading turned out dotted. It's kind of like they printed it with low DPI, or they changed the file to bitmap in Photoshop. It looks like the whole artwork became "screentoned". The first thing I checked, of course, was my own file, and I'm 100% sure that there is nothing wrong with it. Since they don't know how to fix it, I had to find a new printer. The good thing is that the new guys are doing a pretty good job so far based on the proof they sent me. The values are super close to my digital file, which is really nice! From the photo above, you can see that they even managed to preserve the smoke effect behind the character, which was lost in the first print on the left. The new print run has fixed those issues, and it looks beautiful from the inside out! Click on the image below to enlarge it and see what I mean by the dotted print.
Below are a few more photos from the new test print dummy copy. It's pretty legit...............
WHY 'CHAPTER II' AS THE BOOK NAME?
I just want to find a title with the number '2' in it as *cough* this is my 2nd sketchbook. I find CHAPTER II fitting for my current situation, as I feel like I'm in the second chapter of my life. I'm now a professional cover artist, married, and settled down with a house and a car...etc. You get the idea. In contrast, the me in 2019 was still finding my own voice and direction in life. Although it has only been a few years, many things have changed. I want to publish a book from time to time because I can see what I was doing at that specific moment in time. It's very nostalgic! Also, SOZOMAIKA's sketchbook 'YOUR EYES ONLY' is one of my motivations to put out my own!
WHAT OTHER BOOKS HAVE YOU PUT OUT BEFORE?
A few! Most of them I did with a bunch of good friends over the years. They're all sold out though...we never reprint them.
From top to bottom, left to right :
1. MILKY OVERDRIVE (2015)
2. CHEESY OVERKINK (2016)
3. MILKY OVERLOAD (2017)
4. LEFT & RIGHT (2019)
5. CHAPTER II (2023)
WHAT'S NEXT?
I will try to publish books whenever time permits! I'm already working on one with a kickass friend of mine, and you'll have an idea which is it if you've been paying attention to my art posts...haha stay tuned!
Peace out!
